The boys and I spent Father's Day doing things that we would normally be doing with their Daddy on a day like today. We had biscuits with honey and butter for breakfast (one of Kyle's favorite breakfast meals) and afterwards spent a couple hours playing at the pool. Now that my sister is gone and I have to go to the pool alone with the boys, I play the role of mommy and daddy. I have to be nuturing and concerned when they get scared in the water, as well as the swim instructor and designated splasher (and splashee most of the time). However, I am not good at both roles. Each time I try to teach Kaleb a new swim move, mainly kicking and doggy paddling, he just doesn't listen to me. This is because his Daddy is his teacher when it comes to sports and athletic type things. I am the teacher of ABC's and 123's, not the teacher of swings and strokes (all though I don't mind teaching him those things too, he just takes to his Daddy teaching him better).
Today he made some friends with two other little boys who were spending the day at the pool with their daddy. Kaleb immediately took to their dad and started talking to him and getting in his face (Kaleb doesn't understand the concept of personal space yet, but I am trying to teach him). I jumped on Kaleb about giving him some time with his family, and explained to the man that his daddy was away for work and desperately missed him. The man without pause included Kaleb in his roughhousing and water play with his sons and I think it made Kaleb's day. In this instant, not that I needed a reminder, it proved how truly important a father's role and a father's love is to their child. A father is a special person in a child's life for sure.
Kyle is so special to Kaleb. They share this precious bond that I can see growing stronger and stronger with each embrace and each new thing that Kyle teaches him (Kaden is more of a Mama's boy but I can see the bond between him and Kyle too, but Kaleb and Kyle's bond is just more unique). They are so much alike and that is why I think they have a special relationship, they can relate to one another. My husband is the perfect father to our sons and on this Father's Day I feel so blessed to be sharing the duties of raising our boys together with him. These two little boys that God gave us sure are a handful, but I hope and pray that they someday turn out to be just like their Daddy (just a bit cleaner lol) and be great daddies to their kids (someday a long long long long long long long time from now).
