Georgia is a popular place for movies to be made. Maybe it is because the beautiful beaches or the historic southern charm it holds. In downtown Savannah a scene from Forrest Gump was filmed in one of the squares. A square, if you don't know, is a small park like area that is in the middle of the city. There are tons of these throughout the downtown area and it makes for a pretty and serene sight. The square that the famous bench scene in which the notable quote, "Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are gona get," was filmed in Forrest Gump took place at Chippewa Square. When I went there with my sister while she was here, the first thing we did was get out our phones and get on the web to see if we could find the exact angle from which they filmed and take a picture from that direction. When we were there we thought we got the angle right, but after I got back home and looked at pictures from the movie we didn't and we were so excited in the fact that we thought we were standing in the exact spot Tom Hanks did :)
We later found out that the bench that Tom Hanks sat on was placed in a spot where currently a bench doesn't even exist. So there went our Christmas card idea for this Christmas ha ha, but what are you gonna do right? Anywho, we were close to it and it was neat to be somewhere where a famous movie was filmed. We enjoyed our time relaxing in the square, playing on the benches, people watching, climbing the priceless statues ha ha, examining leaves lol, and simply taking in a beautiful summer afternoon in Savannah.
