The boys ran through the castle looking up to the icicles hanging in abundance above them, and peering around every corner to see if Kyle and I were around the bend. This place would have made the perfect setting for a game of hide and seek. I know my boys would do anything to have one of these amazing "castles" in our backyard. Saturday, February 11, 2012
Ice Castles...
This past week we took a trip to Breckenridge. On the way we made a stop in Silverthorne to check out the Ice Castles. Before leaving the warmth of four wheel drive Explorer, we drenched ourselves in cold weather wear. Lately Kaleb has to have his gloves on just right, and his boots have to fit tight (it seems to be tight enough to cut off the circulation to his feet but that is the way he has to have it), which makes for an anything but short dressing affair.
Anyhow, once we finished putting on enough layers to go on an Antarctic trek we walked around, ice crunching underneath our boots and rosy cheeks showing up on the little men almost instantaneously. It was such a masterful display of art in the form of ice. I had never seen anything like it and was in awe of every icicle, and every hallway we walked through. It was a weekday so there weren't very many other visitors there with us besides a couple photographers from local papers snapping a few shots for their next edition. They even took some of us...who knows we might be in the next Black Hawk Newspaper.
